Cake... Again

Kira is finally well. She has been sick for 11 long days -- first with a stomach bug and then with her 12-month vaccines. I caught the stomach bug as did 90% of the family that attended her first birthday party (we're so, so, so sorry!). Jay and I felt like she missed out on the quintessential first birthday experience so we gave her a red velvet cupcake today (thank you for leaving them here, Annie Smith!). She thoroughly enjoyed it. In fact, she enjoyed just about everything today. She smiled and laughed and crawled and stood and we THINK even said her first real word, "Eli." Or "EE-III" as the case may be.

Birthday Wagon

We had a little family party for Kira's birthday yesterday (pictures to follow courtesy of Scruff). After the party and a nap, we tested out Kira's new wagon. She LOVED it.

1 Year Check-Up

Kira's first birthday was yesterday, and she had a check-up today. She got four shots (poor baby) and was very fussy about it (like mother, like daughter). She weighs 21 lbs, 11.8 oz.; she is 29.75 inches long; and her head is 18 inches around. That's the 75th percentile in each category (a little lower than 75th for weight actually despite her massive cheeks). HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KIRA!

Mays High

Kira and I went to visit Mr. Wamsted and his AVID class at Mays on Friday. Jay has taught this same group of kids for 3 years (they are now Juniors) and consequently knows them pretty well. I always love seeing them, and Kira certainly made a few friends. A student took this picture with her phone (thank you, Bria!).

Happy Birthday, Addie!

We went to Montgomery yesterday to celebrate cousin Addie's 2nd birthday. We had such a wonderful time, and Kira LOVED playing with Addie and her toys. Hopefully more pictures will follow, but please see pure joy embodied in an almost 1-year-old below.

Monkeying Around

You may not be able to tell in these pictures, but Kira climbed up onto the island in my father-in-law's kitchen. She was quite tickled with herself (as was Grampa who snapped these photos). It's a whole new world with a climbing child! (Please note the omnipresent food on her face in the middle picture.) Edit: this was the BOTTOM of the kitchen island... about has high as a stair tread.
