The Lake

My parents went up to their lake house for their annual post-tax season long weekend. After the coldest winter in decades they found broken pipes, fallen trees, a full deer skeleton, and a resident beaver. Oh, and tornadoes were predicted for Saturday. Despite the conditions, we decided we couldn't let another spring weekend go by without a trip to the lake so we packed up the car and headed north. We weren't disappointed! Kira had four people to entertain her on a rainy Saturday. Sunday was just beautiful, and we went out on the boat. See evidence below. (We put a life jacket on Kira to start, but it looked so uncomfortable that we relented and just held her tight! She also switched hats several times in an effort to save her delicate skin from the sun. Thus the multiple looks.)

The Great Outdoors

We have been spending a lot of time in the backyard since it warmed up. Kira loves it. Just being outside usually entertains her, especially if she spots a bird. But don't be fooled by the picture below; Kira no longer stays on the blanket. Apparently, the feel of grass doesn't bother her anymore. She's all over the place! Can you find Eli?

The Zoo

Kira and I went to the zoo today to meet some new friends: Mary and her two children, Frankie and Harper. I hoped to have a fabulous post for you complete with adorable pictures and hilarious stories about Kira at the zoo. Ah, the best laid plans... Kira was fussy and only mildly interested in the animals. Mostly, she liked watching the other children. There was a panda bear eating bamboo shoots about two feet from her face, but her eyes were on the three-year-old nearby. She also enjoyed riding the train. She did not enjoy riding in her stroller, which resulted in quite an arm workout for Mommy. I did manage to get a picture. You will just have to trust me that this picture was, in fact, taken at the zoo.

Intruder

Until recently, Eli had one remaining stronghold in this house, one sanctuary, one place where he could get away from a certain baby: his bed. Unfortunately for Eli, Kira discovered his bed a few weeks ago, and she now frequently romps there. This morning, however, she took her intrusion to a new level. She actually brought books and "read" to herself while lounging amidst dust and dog hair. Of course, my one-year-old can't actually read, but she flipped the pages and babbled and squealed. It sounded like an interesting story... perhaps about an interloping princess and a subsequently displaced beast.

Birthday Chair

Have you seen Kira's chair?
Isn't it cute? She got it from my parents for her birthday, but she has really just discovered it in the past week or so. She mostly uses it as a jungle gym, but occasionally a baby just needs a break!

Prelude to Summer

Jay has the week off for Spring Break. Kira has been so happy with her Daddy home; she can hardly stop smiling. We left her on a blanket in the backyard while we did some yard work this afternoon. She stayed there and played for well over an hour! I just thought she was too cute to go undocumented...

Easter Sunday

We had a wonderful Easter Sunday. We went to church this morning and then had dinner with my family this afternoon. Kira loved seeing everyone and eating her first deviled egg. She may or may not have tried the plastic eggs as well.
