First Haircut

Kira and I picked up Yaya this morning and headed over to Pigtails & Crewcuts for Kira's first real haircut. The place is perfectly set up for children, which made the whole process a breeze! Kira played with a trainset while we waited, sat in a taxi cab while she got her haircut, and ate her first sucker when it was all over! See the play-by-play below.

Edit: My sister pointed out that you can't really see the haircut due to the adorable pigtails. I will try to get a shot of the actual cut at some point. Rest assured that it looks cute!

Plan B

Kira came down with a cold and a fever last week. Jay had Friday off, and we were supposed to go up to Highlands for a long weekend to visit Gramma and Papa Al. Unfortunately, Kira's high fever forced us to stay home. Boo. We made the most of it by getting a few boring things done around the house (like child-proofing cabinets - it's about time!). Kira was pretty pitiful all weekend except when we gave her IBProfen to bring her fever down. Then she acted fairly normally. See evidence below: Kira and Jay playing music together. They play music together pretty often, and it always just makes me love each of them even more!
Can you see how much fun they're both having? I'm not sure who enjoys it more. They both like a good excuse to be LOUD!

Tea Party

Jay was out of town last weekend so I decided some girl time was in order. I promptly invited my lovely friends Jen and Maury to afternoon tea.
I took some photos before they arrived because I just love setting a pretty table, (I suppose I have my mother to thank for that predilection) but I forgot to get pictures with my guests! Well, I did snap a few of the cutest two members of our party (no offense, Jen and Maury). Below is Kira holding Maury's son, Charlie. I was a little nervous about the damage Kira might inflict; but Maury was as cool as a cucumber, and Kira did wonderfully!

Happy Valentine's Day

We here at the Homestead would like to wish you a very happy Valentine's Day filled with love, chocolate, and maybe a homemade Valentine or two. Kira made these cards for all of her grandparents and great-grandparents whom we love very much.

A Scene from Today

(Mommy sighs as she collapses in a chair leaving groceries strewn on the floor.)
Kira: Back hurts. (Said matter-of-factly.)
Mommy: Actually, Kira, my back is ok. I'm just tired.
Kira: Just tired.
Mommy: That's right.
Kira: Take nap, Mommy.
(Mommy laughs at her toddler's sage advice.)

Around here, we are eagerly anticipating...
1. The arrival of our nephew in the next few weeks. (My sister is almost 38 weeks pregnant!)
2. Kira's second birthday in March.
3. The not too distant arrival of our son in April.
4. And Spring! Spring is my favorite season by far, and I'm beginning to see hints of its coming.
{a few early forsythia blooms} {daffodils starting to poke out of the ground}
"It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want - oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!"

To Montgomery and Back

Kira, Jay, and I piled in the Sorento yesterday morning and drove south to Montgomery. [Sidenote: we are still loving our new car! It feels so fancy after years without power windows and locks!] We went to visit Uncle Paul, Aunt Anna, Addie, Audrey Kate, and Anne Perry - otherwise known as the Montgomery Wamsteds. Kira was beside herself with excitement the entire day. She and Addie played and played and played. They are so hilarious together.
We also came home with LOTS of baby stuff to use for our little boy. The house is starting to feel like there will be a newborn here again (which is good because there will be). As always, we had a wonderful time with the Montgomery Wamsteds and are so thankful for them!

30 weeks down, 10 to go...

I am 30 weeks pregnant today! Kira and I celebrated with a little photo shoot courtesy of Jay. We didn't get any gorgeous pictures out of it, but we had some fun!
The picture above is why my back hurts every day. The picture below is why that doesn't matter!
