This happens at least 3 times a day...

John has started smiling at us this week. It's the cutest, goofiest grin ever. Be still my beating heart.

Squeaky Clean

You may have noticed that I'm playing blog catch up. John's first bath occurred over a week ago (when his umbilical cord finally fell off). He has had several baths since then, but I thought I'd share a few pictures of that first bath. Gramma with a clean baby. I'll let you guess which of John's parent did his hair...

John turned 1-month-old yesterday so we went to the doctor for his check-up this morning. He weighs 9 lbs 9.6 oz (50th percentile) and is 22.5 inches long (95th percentile and 2.5 inches longer than at birth!). He is healthy and strong and doing great! Oh, and he's as cute as a button (they don't have a chart for that, but I'm sure he'd be at the top).
(Yes, he has a some "baby acne." Poor little guy. It's totally normal and caused by hormones just like adolescent acne. Kira had it, too. It should go away soon.)

Lake Weekend

These pictures are from our trip to the lake last weekend. I love this family photo in the back of a truck... although I think Jay and I look alike in this picture, which kind of weirds me out.We had a great weekend. Kira loved playing in the field and watching my parents' dog catch the frisbee. John even went on his first boat ride. Unfortunately, we didn't get a picture of it as our hands were too full of all the stuff we took on the boat to accomodate both children. Poor neglected second child.

Strawberry Picking

The four of us headed north to my parents' lake house last weekend. My mom and dad were there as well, and it was a wonderful weekend full of pancakes and frisbees. I will share pictures of that soon, but this post is dedicated to a stop we made on the drive up. We pulled down a long dirt driveway, and Kira and I picked a bucket of strawberries. Kira took to it immediately and diligently helped me fill the bucket with plump, red berries. Look how serious she is in the pictures! I think we will have to plant strawberries in our next garden.

The Literary Wamsteds

"Reading" to John is Kira's favorite sisterly activity. He's not really into it yet, but I have high hopes for more pictures like this in the future... maybe even someday when I don't have to put "reading" in quotation marks.

Paul, Anna, and their three girls came to meet John last weekend. We actually managed to get some pictures of all FIVE cousins! Notice the progression from sweet to silly to DONE.
