Kira's Vacation

Kira went with Gramma and Papa Al to their mountain house in Highlands, NC for the weekend.  She had an amazing time and feels so special getting to go places without Mommy or Daddy... although apparently she's angling for John to join her next time!  These are the pictures that Gramma sent us throughout the weekend.
Kira loves sweeping their deck with Gramma's special broom!
They put together a 300 piece puzzle!
The weekend was capped off with a giant cupcake!
Does she want to save some for later?  "NOOO!!"
Thanks to Gramma and Papa Al for a great weekend!

First Day of Parents' Morning Out

We have had a big week this week.  Kira went to preschool for the first time.  I went to my 24-week doctor's appointment (baby's doing well).  And John started Parents' Morning Out today.  He'll go 1 day a week for 3.5 hours - just like Kira did for the past 2 years.  I took a few pictures before we left this morning.
Am I biased or is that kid adorable?  Of course Kira wanted to jump in on the action, too.
I was a little nervous for John this morning.  I left him crying in his teacher's arms, but I got a glowing report this afternoon.  He only cried for a minute and then did great the rest of the day.  Way to go, John!

First Day of Preschool, 1985

My mom and I think that I'm 3-years-old here.  I might be 4.  Either way, I thought you might want to see the resemblance (mostly prevalent in the chubby cheek department).

First Day of Preschool

Kira started preschool today.  She'll be going 3 days a week - Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  She was so excited when we got there that she gave her teacher a hug that literally knocked her teacher down.  I gave Kira a hug, told her I love her, and said goodbye.  Much to my surprise, Kira looked up at me with bright eyes and said, "Goodbye!"  She was ready for me to go!  When I picked her up 4 hours later, she cried because she didn't want to come home.  I think it went well!
Smile!
"First day of preschool!"
"I'm taking my teacher fig jam!"
"I don't want any more pictures.  Let's go!"

Saturday Morning Breakfast

Figs, french toast, and flowers.... this is about as fancy as it gets here at the homestead.

Brothers From The Past

This is kind of late, but with school starting right after vacation I hadn't had time to post these pictures my Mom found hidden away somewhere. I'm not sure if you'll find this entertaining unless you are a Wamsted, but I hope it at least puts some perspective on why my brother and I felt like mustaches at the family reunion were an appropriate thing.

My dad, looking almost Jay-like with his freaky-long hair (for an army man). That is an amazing swoop he's got going there.
Uncle Dennis, wearing some unfortunate glasses. Annemarie's age in this photo places it around 1995 or so. Decide for yourself how fashionable his 'stache is.
And here's my dad and Uncle Ron, in what appears to be a photo shot through a fake instagram filter, but is in fact an antique all on its own.  I will say this: If Dad & Ron's faces were replaced by Will Ferrell's & Steve Carrell's, this could be the poster of some strange remake of Jaws that I would really like to see.
Wamsteds & Mustaches. Who knew something so creepy could be such a family affair?

John: 15-16 Months

Jay took John in for his 15-month check-up just over 3 weeks ago.  He weighed in at 22 lb. 3 oz. and was 31.5 inches long.  He was very healthy and came home with multiple band-aids from immunization shots (much to the interest of his big sister).
Since then, he has started walking and talking  --- the latter more than the former.  I have counted at least 9 steps in a row, but crawling is still John's primary means of transportation.  I thought he would walk earlier than Kira did, but apparently they're on the same schedule.  He is talking and communicating quite a bit.  It seems like I hear a new word every day, and he repeats everything.  It's completely adorable.
Click here to see Kira at 15 months.  She was pretty cute, too.

Bye Bye, Vacation!

These are our last vacation photos to post.  Jay has been back at school for a week, and the students come Monday.  I guess it's official: summer vacation is over.  It was a wonderful summer, and we are sad to say goodbye.
