Zoo Day

Kira, John, and I went to the zoo on Friday with Yaya, Aunt Annie, and Cousin Walker.  Kira has proclaimed that flamingos are her favorite animal; John LOVED the parakeets that would swoop right by his head; and I was quite smitten with the baby gorilla perched on its mama's back.

Walker watching the parakeets.

Aunt Annie, Walker, and John enjoying a picnic.
This zoo trip was made possible by free tickets from my cousin Barbara and by Aunt Annie's birthday, which inspired her to take a day off of work.  Happy birthday, Annie!  And thank you, Barbara!

Little Brother

Daddy: Kira, does John have on a beautiful necklace?
Kira: Yep.
John: [unintelligible shouts & yells, accompanied by teething related drooling]

Less than 3 minutes after this photo was taken, that necklace was in pieces on the floor.

Just wait until there are 2 of them, Kira!!

Sunday Night Pictures

We've had quite a full and fun weekend!  On Friday night, Gramma came in town.  She stayed with John while Jay and I took Kira to Sesame Street Live at Philips Arena (thank you for the tickets, Barbara!).  As you can imagine, it blew our 3-year-old away!  On Saturday, Gramma and I manned the children while Jay finished an almost final draft of his dissertation (ok, yes, he will still be editing for the next few months, but this was a big milestone).  Saturday night, Gramma watched BOTH children while Jay and I said BON VOYAGE to my cousin Claire who is moving to France.  Then today saw church, a picnic in the park, and house-wide naps!

We did not get pictures of any of the above events so Jay tried to snap a few photos before bath time tonight.  It turned into something of a wrestling match.  You should have seen him trying to take these pictures....

Atlanta Botanical Gardens

We spent the morning at the Botanical Gardens with Yaya, Baba, and Claire.  The gardens are beautiful, and the children's garden is so impressive and engaging.  We all had an awesome time!  I took a few photos although I didn't get any amazing ones.  Here's Kira sitting on a chicken eating grapes (but of course).

And here's John showing off his favorite part of the gardens - the plastic chairs in the cafe.  Notice all the smudges.

What We've Been Up To

This kid came down with pneumonia last week.  He's fine now, but it made for a rough 4 or 5 days.  (Picture a very pregnant Millie watching from behind a wall while John screamed and got chest x-rays.)
Consequently, my parents offered to take Kira to the lake with them at the last minute.  Kira had an amazing weekend with Yaya, PopPop, Uncle Jimmy, Aunt Diane, and Mary Beth.  I'm pretty sure she would have stayed indefinitely.  (That's Kira and PopPop in a kayak below.)
This weekend we are painting Kira's room from purple to green.  By Tuesday it will officially become "Kira AND John's Room."  Kira is super excited about the transition and was also eager to help paint.
Of course, Jay is the real workhorse behind the whole operation.
In the midst of all of this craziness, John has become quite the walker.  He still drops to crawl when a situation calls for maximum speed, but otherwise he's up on his feet.
