Chicken Man

I never could have pictured this when I married Jay 8.5 years ago.  I always knew that Jay would be an amazing father to my children.  It never crossed my mind that he would nurture and care for my chickens, too.  We've had the chicks for just over 3 weeks, and they're not little balls of fluff anymore.  They are getting real feathers, and they're fast and strong.  They can go out in their coop in another 3 weeks, and I have a feeling we will be more than ready to have them out of the garage by then!

"I'm 2!"

We had a little family party on Friday evening to celebrate John's birthday.  John was thrilled and proudly told everyone, "I'm 2!"  (He can't hold up 2 fingers so this is his "I'm 2" stance below.)
We had a lot of fun with bubbles in the yard...
 ... and opening presents...
... which included a cowboy hat from Mommy and Daddy!
John was a little stunned when everyone started singing Happy Birthday to him...
... but he blew out the candles like a champ!
And he was pretty excited about eating cookie cake!
Happy 2nd birthday to my sweet, hilarious John!

Six Little Wamsteds

Jay's brother Paul and his family joined us for a few days at the lake. This moment on the couch was the only time all six of them were in the same spot for long enough to grab a picture!

Spring Break 2013

Spring Break! Here at Lake Seed, first time out of town as a family of five...

This is John's "Surprise Face." Millie and I make him do it so often that we've started to worry about creating a future class clown. The Elmo hat adds to the effect, I think.
Kira & Eli playing soccer in the field. That bucket is filled with pine cones.
Heading to the other field looking for more pine cones. I don't know exactly why collecting pine cones became a thing, but it does keep us busy.
I managed to get decent pictures of all three kids alone. Here's Kira, 4 years & 1 month.
John, turning 2 next week.
Simon, 4 months plus a week.
Outake. I told Kira to put her arm around John, who had just moments before been excited about taking a picture with his big sister. Poor kid has some trust issues.

4-Month Check-Up

Simon's 4-month check-up was last week.  I've been meaning to post pictures of our sweet 4-month-old for you, but I haven't gotten my act together.  For posterity, I at least want to record his measurements.

26 inches long
15 pounds and 13 ounces

He has gained a lot of weight since his last check-up, which is very satisfying for his nursing mama!

Easter

We had a great Easter yesterday.  We went to church in the morning.  It was crowded but oh so wonderful.   Then we went to Yaya and PopPop's after naps to have an Easter egg hunt and a lovely dinner.
A giant storm cloud was looming overhead so we had our Easter egg hunt inside.  There were eggs tucked in corners and stuffed between couch cushions.  Kira, John, and cousin Walker loved it!
Here's one of me with Simon who didn't get in on the egg hunting action this year.
One final picture of John and Walker.  Kira and John had so much fun with Walker yesterday (and probably taught him a few bad tricks!).
