A Christmas Story

Please note that no eyes have been shot out... yet.

Wamsted December

Merry Christmas! Apologies for several things: (1) The lack of festive pajamas in the Christmas-morning photo below. You just have to trust that it is, in fact, Christmas morning by the chalkboard Advent calendar on the wall. (2) Our extended absence. We've thrown three parties in three weeks here at the Wamsted house, plus three Christmas pageants, plus five colds. And a partridge in a pear tree?
Millie's mom at her 60th birthday party, with her siblings & mother.
 Birthday girl & co-hostesses.
Outtake, timer, group photo. How cute is Millie?
John & Papa Al, party #2. Twelve Wamsteds, two Picketts, and a Dunn came here for pre-Christmas Christmas last Saturday. We captured exactly two decent photos.
And here we are back at Christmas morning (you can tell from the pajamas, remember?).
Merry Christmas, people! We've got ten days of holiday yet to come, so hopefully we can get something else posted before February!

Fall Leaves

Get ready... get set... GO!!!!
Jay raked leaves into a giant pile for the kids in Augusta.  They ran and jumped into it over and over and over again.  It was awesome!  (And, just in case the pictures are misleading, that brick path drops off onto a wide strip of grass.  They were not jumping onto brick or road or anything that could easily crack their skulls.)

Happy Birthday, Simon!

Simon turned 2 on Saturday.  We celebrated in Augusta with pancakes for breakfast, pb&j for lunch, and pizza for dinner.  To top it all off, we had cupcakes and ice cream!  Not to mention, presents!  Simon didn't really get the concept of presents ahead of time, but he sure liked them once he opened them.  See the backpack from Gramma below for proof.  Happy birthday, Si.  We love you, little one!

Asheville + Augusta

We packed up and headed to Gramma and Papa Al's house in Augusta this past Saturday.  Then Jay and I... LEFT ALL 3 CHILDREN THERE!  We headed to Asheville to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  It was amazing and relaxing and everything we hoped it would be.  (Gramma and Papa Al would not call their time alone with the children "relaxing," but it went extraordinarily well nonetheless.)  To document our trip, I took a series of pictures of Jay doing his favorite things.
Jay in a giant used book store.
Jay with iced coffee writing in his journal.
Jay with hot coffee writing in our anniversary journal.  (Yes, that's right.  Two coffee houses, two caffeinated beverages, two journals -- all in one day.)
Jay sampling beers at Wicked Weed Brewing.
We spent 3 nights away, and we were delighted to see these adorable faces when we returned.  What an amazing beginning to a week of giving thanks!  Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

Book Switch-Out Day

We keep almost all of our children's books in the garage, leaving just a few in the house at a time. Every once in a while we do a big switch-out, where the kids gather books from all corners and we trade in for new reading material. Typically, we can count on a period of peace in the house after such a time. On this particular day I decided to shatter this peace by taking pictures, but the kids were still pretty pleased.

A Decade Together

10 years ago today, I married this guy.  Best decision I ever made.

Halloween 2014

I think I can say safely that this Halloween was the best we've had in this house (our 10th!).  We ate dinner with our friends across the street and then trick-or-treated together.  As we roamed the neighborhood, people were thrilled to hand candy out to our group of costumed munchkins ranging from almost 2 to 8-years-old.  One lady who we met took a picture of our entire crew.  We met other kids and parents on the street.  All of this might sound pretty run-of-the-mill for Halloween, but we had years with little to no trick-or-treaters... then years when our children were the only trick-or-treaters we saw.  We're pretty excited to have other families around.  Our kids are overjoyed!  (Did I mention that our friends across the street have a trampoline?  Talk about exciting!)

Ok, without further ado I present to you a chunky monkey, a black cat, and Buzz Lightyear.
Also Woody from John's Trunk or Treat at preschool earlier in the day.

Texas Shades

Jay went to Texas this past weekend to celebrate with his family as his cousin Katelyn got married.  He came back with these amazing sunglasses.  Congratulations, Katelyn and Ryan!  Thanks for the shades!

Meet Laurel.  She and Simon hang out 2 days a week - one day with me (Millie) and one day with Laurel's mom.  Both of these kids are the youngest of 3, and it's fun to play with them without bigger kids around.

Eli, Again

This is Jay.

Millie & I went through a little phase of digging through old photos this past week, just looking out for Eli & thinking about what a great dog he was. We weren't intending to post the pictures, but as they piled up we thought they painted a pretty good picture of what our lives have looked like these past few years of babies & toddlers. Like Millie said in the other post, that dog loved being around our kids.
These are all in chronological order, I think, except for the last one. It should go a couple spaces above,  but it is one of our all-time favorite photos. It just shows what Eli was like--always keeping those kids close by. It seemed the right picture to close out this post. We'll miss you, buddy.
