Asheville + Augusta

We packed up and headed to Gramma and Papa Al's house in Augusta this past Saturday.  Then Jay and I... LEFT ALL 3 CHILDREN THERE!  We headed to Asheville to celebrate our 10 year anniversary.  It was amazing and relaxing and everything we hoped it would be.  (Gramma and Papa Al would not call their time alone with the children "relaxing," but it went extraordinarily well nonetheless.)  To document our trip, I took a series of pictures of Jay doing his favorite things.
Jay in a giant used book store.
Jay with iced coffee writing in his journal.
Jay with hot coffee writing in our anniversary journal.  (Yes, that's right.  Two coffee houses, two caffeinated beverages, two journals -- all in one day.)
Jay sampling beers at Wicked Weed Brewing.
We spent 3 nights away, and we were delighted to see these adorable faces when we returned.  What an amazing beginning to a week of giving thanks!  Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!

Book Switch-Out Day

We keep almost all of our children's books in the garage, leaving just a few in the house at a time. Every once in a while we do a big switch-out, where the kids gather books from all corners and we trade in for new reading material. Typically, we can count on a period of peace in the house after such a time. On this particular day I decided to shatter this peace by taking pictures, but the kids were still pretty pleased.

A Decade Together

10 years ago today, I married this guy.  Best decision I ever made.

Halloween 2014

I think I can say safely that this Halloween was the best we've had in this house (our 10th!).  We ate dinner with our friends across the street and then trick-or-treated together.  As we roamed the neighborhood, people were thrilled to hand candy out to our group of costumed munchkins ranging from almost 2 to 8-years-old.  One lady who we met took a picture of our entire crew.  We met other kids and parents on the street.  All of this might sound pretty run-of-the-mill for Halloween, but we had years with little to no trick-or-treaters... then years when our children were the only trick-or-treaters we saw.  We're pretty excited to have other families around.  Our kids are overjoyed!  (Did I mention that our friends across the street have a trampoline?  Talk about exciting!)

Ok, without further ado I present to you a chunky monkey, a black cat, and Buzz Lightyear.
Also Woody from John's Trunk or Treat at preschool earlier in the day.
