One Last Birthday Post: John & Gramma

John got these Playmobile dragons and men from Gramma when she came in town a few days after his birthday. He loved them immediately, and his affection has not waned. He has played with them for at least an hour every day!

Birthday Fun

John had a pretty low-key birthday, but it was still a pretty awesome birthday given that birthdays generally come with presents and cake!

John opened Rex from Grampa and Miss Gail.  He has hardly put Rex down since!
For the second year in a row, the birthday boy requested chocolate cake with chocolate icing and chocolate ice cream.  I happily obliged.  I love his face as I put the cake in front of him below.
For the record, Simon thoroughly enjoyed John's birthday.
So did Batman!  (Batman costume from Yaya and PopPop.  Scooter in the background being ridden by shirtless Simon from Mommy and Daddy.  Notice Rex peeking out from behind Batman.)

Happy birthday, John!

Happy birthday to this silly 4-year-old!  We have more birthday pictures to come (most of them are blurry because the child couldn't stay still).  We love you and love you, John Boy!

"Daddy, could my Horace have your Horace's sword?"

The other day we watched 101 Dalmations, so after quiet time when John asked me to play with the "horses and men" (we have a giant collection of Playmobile figures thanks to Aunt Laura!) we quickly turned to playing Pongo & Perdita & Cruella Deville. John had Horace & Jasper, and for some reason I had Captain Hook as well as another Horace. At some point John is explaining all of the swords to me (just go with it) when he turns and says, ever so seriously, "Daddy, could my Horace have your Horace's sword?" How could I say no? I'm not even sure I understand the question...
Notice the jail in the upper left corner (Cruella was in the jail for a while, until she turned into a good guy--there's hope for everyone!). Also, the family in the blanket pile under the table.
I think this is Roger & Anita and some other guy (not Captain Hook; could be Smee). I don't know if Kira's cat Aurora is guarding them or not.

Boys in Sunglasses

We're starting to realize that if the boys are doing anything together, we can get some pretty funny pictures just by saying, "Can I take a picture of you guys?" John immediately started dancing, which prompted Simon to pick up the stick (he was already holding George; he and Kira were playing babies). I just wanted a cute picture of them in their sunglasses. Go figure!

Happy Easter! (Part One?)

As Millie left the house a few minutes before the rest of us, you will notice several things askew with this photo of our kids dressed up in their Easter best. First, Kira is still nursing her jelly beans--her one Easter morning pre-breakfast treat--as she will continue to do the entire way to church, interspersed with the eating of her banana. Two, her bow is placed rather wrongly in relation to her pony tail; much fun was made of her father by multiple people when we arrived to church. Three, because John is wearing a short sleeve shirt (the only nice shirt that fits him) and I was in a hurry, I had to grab his Batman hoodie to keep him warm in the spring morning chill. Four, Simon's hair probably needed to be brushed, though I'm really not sure how to do that properly anyways. Other than that, though, all is good!
