Get Well Soon

Millie had minor surgery last week to remove some skin cancer from her forehead. The procedure ended up being more intensive than we had expected, and so the recovery has been a bit protracted. Fortunately, we have great kids who have been super easy throughout. Kira, of course, went straight to the art closet and made Millie a present:
In case you were wondering: Yes, those are drinking straws forming the top and bottom cross pieces of the bag (?); yes, she picked the flowers herself; yes, those are cherry tomatoes from our garden that she picked and put inside the pouch before giving it to Millie; and, yes, the quarter is a part of the gift as well.

John and Simon started preschool this week. John started Monday and will go 5 days each week.  Simon started Tuesday and will only go Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  So far, it's been great!  All 3 kids in school... it's a whole new world!

Mountain Camp

Last week, Gramma took both boys to her house in Highlands. We talked it up ahead of time and gave it a name: "Mountain Camp." What follows is a small series of photos captured by Gramma's phone. I'm pretty sure they also capture the joy these two had during their three nights alone with Gramma. They LOVED it, even if it took a little convincing by Gramma that they were not, in fact, homesick. And yes, in case you were wondering, that is a homemade catapult. John was extremely impressed with Gramma's friends.

First Grader

Kira's first day of FIRST GRADE was yesterday.  She had a great day at school and was all smiles when she got off the bus in the afternoon!  Of course, she had a small meltdown an hour later, but that was to be expected from this particular 6-year-old.  She can only hold it together for so long, and the first day of a new grade is a big deal.  Here's hoping for another great day today and maybe slightly less drama this afternoon.
(I could not get a serious picture out of her yesterday morning so we just went with it.)
