Merry Christmas!

We'll get back to some more pictures here in a couple of days, but I wanted to post a shot of the Atlanta Wamsteds in their Christmas Eve best! Please ignore the holes in John's knees and fous on the collared shirts the boys are wearing. And the joy--keep your eyes on the joy!

December, Continued

It seems the best way to keep up with the blog this time of year is to post a smattering of pictures from a smattering of events.  So here's Millie just doing her job - throwing a Christmas party for 4th and 5th graders at church!  Isn't she festive?!
Here's a glimpse of the chaos that was this year's Wamsted caroling party.  The number of children continues to grow.  This also continues to be the highlight of Jay's year.
Recovery the next day involved a viewing of The Polar Express in Mommy and Daddy's bed.  Of course.
Lastly, here's a random picture including our Santa mugs with paperwhites bursting to bloom and our new and beloved wood burning stove.  Everything about this picture makes us pretty darn happy.

Advent 2016

We've been busy as ever this December.  We've decorated the house for Christmas.
We watched Simon perform in the annual Golden Start Preschool Christmas Pageant.  Simon needed Babe (his beloved and bedraggled baby doll) to come watch, too.
Simon's teachers have told me how he is their best singer and knows all the words.  Simon was adorable and LOUD!  Apparently, loud equals best.  Yaya commented how much this reminded her of Simon's father...
Then we had a birthday breakfast for Yaya complete with an Art Chicks art project.  We painted a Nativity set for Yaya to take home!  (Of course, she brought all the pieces, paint, brushes, etc with her!)  Everyone got in on the action -- that's Pop Pop taking the painting of his cow very seriously in the picture below.
Somehow the birthday breakfast finished with a game of chess between Kira and Pop Pop.
Happy Advent!  Hope you're enjoying the season as much as we are!

Three Kids & Grampa

We've seen my dad a good bit in the last couple weeks due to unfortunate circumstances. Ms. Gail passed away on Wednesday, letting go after a long fight with cancer. We have missed her so much during these past difficult months, and will miss her so much in the days to come, but it was good to see her and get to say goodbye. In the middle of all of this, however, we somehow did get a remarkably good picture of the three children with Grampa. We love you so much, Grampa.

Happy 4th Birthday, Simon!

We celebrated 4 years of Simon at Chuck E Cheese this evening!  Big fun!

Happy Babey Mommy!

(This is Millie.)  I love it when Kira concocts a master plan and it actually works out!  Today she dreamt up a surprise party for me to celebrate Baby #4.  She made invitations for Jay and the boys, but they were under strict orders not to let the secret slip!
Then Jay and the boys hid in Kira's room while Kira asked me to look at something in her room.  She gave John a signal from outside and opened the door.  John immediately turned on the party music (Taylor Swift, obviously).
There was a banner and even party games!
The finale was a Taylor Swift dance party!
Sometimes it's pretty great being a mom to these three.

Halloween 2016

For the third year in a row, we went across the street to the Martins' house before trick-or-treating.  The first year, it was just Wamsteds and Martins.  By this year, our numbers had grown considerably!  This is just a small smattering of kids below.
Here are our 3 adorable trick-or-treaters: a pirate, a black cat, and Luke Skywalker.  (If it looks a little hazy, that's because Matt Martin loves dry ice!  There was a "smoking" cauldron just out of the shot.)
Also, we're having another baby, in case you hadn't heard.  Millie is 17-weeks pregnant today, and everything looks happy and healthy (in that nauseous, exhausted way that pregnancies go).  Managed to capture photographic evidence of the bump with a few costumed children in the background.

Family Room Camp-Out

Simon was very sad that we were out of the house this summer, and thus didn't get to repeat our Porch Camp-Out from last year. Then it was just for the big kids; this year was going to be all of us. We finally got the porch cleared off last weekend, but come Friday the weather turned cold on us. We rolled with it, though, and created a new tradition, lighting our first fire of the season in our brand-new wood-burning stove!
The pictures of the kids are all a little blurry. Nobody here is exactly a "good" photographer. Still cute, though.
Two good solo shots. Simon last night. Love that smile.
And Kira this morning. There are a lot of adorable things about this photo, but I'll let you parse them out on your own.

American Fighters

I was trying to catch the kids out the window, playing unawares. They caught me, though, and posed. Kira: "American Fighters. We fight for justice!"

Front Yard Pumpkins

These pumpkins grew in our front yard, nestled right up next to the street.  As they grew and changed from green to orange, we noticed an unintended side effect.  Passersby would stop and smile.  Sometimes they'd talk to us, sometimes to each other.

Growing squash in the front yard is a small way to bring joy to others certainly.  But a lovely one, I think.

Harvesting Pumpkins, Part Two

Been a minute. Sorry about that! We tried to get a cute picture of the kids with our neighbors Judah and Josie after we harvested the first two pumpkins. While what we have here might not be considered "cute" so much, it is representative of what our lives are like.

Harvesting Pumpkins, Part One

So for some reason this summer while we were away from our house much of our produce just went bananas. Pardon the pun. For a long time, though, we thought the exception was going to be the pumpkins we planted in the front yard. Years ago we had a really good crop from the patch by the street, but our attempt to duplicate this success seemed ill-fated: by late summer we had crazy vines and no pumpkins at all. Slowly but surely, however, during August and September (much later than last time), beautiful big pumpkins grew out of the vines. Some of them are still out there soaking up the end of the summer sun, but the other day we harvested our first pumpkin--just in time for the first day of fall.

New House! (Sort Of)

While it is true that we are in our new old house, sleeping and eating and living it up, it is also true that there is stuff EVERYWHERE. So, adorable pictures of the kids in their new bedrooms are forthcoming, but for now we'll just have to settle for some breakfast smiles. And, in case you were wondering, yes--the children sometimes mix all four of those cereals together in one bowl. It's pretty gross.
