Pop-Pop: Welcome to Your New Breakfast

Renovations on the homestead started yesterday! In related news, we are now living upstairs at Ya-Ya and Pop-Pop's house. The last time Holly and Ed were so lucky with long-term guests (Millie's sister's family was here for six months, up until just a few weeks ago!), the kids went weekday mornings to day care, leaving the hosts to a more or less regular routine. Our kids? Yeah, it's summer break. We're just here all the time.
Poor Pop-Pop. He doesn't know that freezing out Simon is a loser's game.

Silly Face

Sometimes smiles are hard to come by when you're photographing a kid. To wit.
But, you can almost always count on a reaction when you ask for a silly face. (Note: this sometimes results in you getting a silly face when you asked for a smile; see above picture). From the beach one day last week...

Happy Father's Day!

Wishing a happy Father's Day to Pop Pop, Grampa, Papa Al, Uncle Paul, Uncle Connor, Uncle Jeremy, and - of course - to Daddy.  See the little video we made for Jay below.

The Missing Link

We've noted before that John shares an uncanny resemblance to his cousin Audrey Kate. Every time they are together I try to get a decent picture, because I'm sure this can't last forever. It is pretty cute: John who doesn't exactly favor his siblings and Audrey Kate who doesn't exactly favor hers look like for all the world like they could be brother and sister. People say that John looks just like me; people have always said that Audrey Kate looks just like her dad (my brother). At any rate, if only John hadn't been chewing gum during this photo, because Audrey Kate sure is adorable.
It might be easier to see here, though this is a crummier picture. Poor Gramma, all covered up. But man oh man, look at those scrunched-up eyes.

When Uncle Jay Takes Pictures

If you are friends with a Wamsted on Facebook, you have probably seen some pretty amazing pictures of the kids that Anna took this past week. It's not just that Anna has a great camera; it's that she's genuinely just really good at setting up the shot and taking the shot and fiddling with the shot on the computer. Uncle Jay, however? Far, far less so. To wit, my attempt to get all seven cousins against a gorgeous ocean backdrop.
Truly, this is as good as it got.

Aunt Anna's Picutres, Probably Part One

We went to the beach the morning after the storm blew through, and Aunt Anna got some great photos of the crew.
The day before she got some good shots of Kira in the pool, also.
The night before the storm we ran kids around the deck in races, trying to wear them out for what we thought was going to be an entirely-indoor day.
The boys, taking a break with Daddy.

Tropical Storm Colin

So we didn't get as much rain as they had predicted--intermittent showers all day--but this was the foreboding view from our deck.
So what do you do with seven kids eight years old and under when the surf is treacherous? Hit the pool, of course! And, obviously, grab your underwater camera.
You'll notice there is no solo picture of Anne Perry. That's because she took 90% of the photos; the last shot of me went through six takes before she was satisfied ("Your eyes were closed"; "Smile, Uncle Jay!"). And, just for the record, Uncle Paul spent four straight hours in the pool with a rotating cast of Wamsted children, much of it just swimming in the rain. He officially won the day, for sure. Hopefully the surf will calm down soon and we'll hit the beach again!

The Beach!

We made it here to St. George Island with the Montgomery Wamsteds and the Picketts, just in time for a tropical storm! Rough water this morning and rain cut us short and we're expecting up to five inches tomorrow, but spirits are high. We'll keep you posted...
