Advent Creations

Kira created the above Christmas scene over the course a few days on a piece of poster board - making sure it was ready for our big Christmas sing-along party on the 23rd.  I think she inspired Simon's scene below.  He drew, cut out, and taped each figure onto his own scene.  Both creations were completely independent -- not to mention pretty awesome!

Merry Christmas to You

Pictures were tough to come by this year. We spent the entirety of Christmas Day at home, but it was busy busy busy--presents & meals & desserts & a visit from YaYa and PopPop. Then we went out of town to Augusta/Athens the very next day! Here, a smattering of the very few photos we got on Christmas Day. [We took not a single picture out of town!]
Later in the day the boys were on their way out the door with their new bows-and-arrows when Millie spotted them. "Stop!" she said. "We need a picture of that!" These are their serious adventure faces. Also, John is wearing a Superman knit hat over top of his Captain America cowl. The entire Captain costume is underneath his clothes. And who knows what Simon has in his backpack. Probably every present he received! And, yes--their faces are covered in chocolate.

Some outtakes from that wonderful Thanksgiving photo shoot. Bo doesn't stand a chance, does he?

We got four or five inches of snow here the other day. It was our first big snowfall since 2014, which means it was just about out of memory for the kids what real snow is like. Simon spent about an hour building a snowman all by himself--it kind of melted a bit when the sun came out, and we think it might have gotten hit by a sled before we managed to get the camera. But here he is:
Catch him running. Note: he is not actually running here. Rather, he wanted me to take a picture of what he would look like if he were running. He's just lifting his leg in the air and smiling.
Here's Kira catching snowflakes. Again, she's just showing me what it would look like if she were catching snowflakes. But, it was snowing so heavily that I think she actually got one or two here.
Here's the "new" house covered in snow. Looks great, right?
No Bo, John, or Millie. John played, and Bo went outside for a moment, but as you'll notice from our front yard, there was a lot of neighborhood action to deal with: snowball fights, snow angels, deranged killer monster snow goons, et cetera. Pictures were tough to come by!

Last but not least, here is a shot my neighbor grabbed when I rolled up on my bicycle after a long ride home. Icebeard rides again!

Happy Birthday, Simon!

Simon went back and forth about how he wanted to spend his fifth birthday, but ultimately we ended up on Chuck E. Cheese again! Only one picture exists to document our second trip in as many years, but it is a good one. He had an amazing day--cinnamon rolls for breakfast, Five Guys for lunch with YaYa, Gramma & Papa Al visiting and even coming to the Chuck with us. And, of course, presents ALL DAY LONG. Best birthday ever!
For comparison, here is exactly one year ago. A bit less of a baby face, maybe? Taller than Chuck now for sure? Growing up fast, definitely!

"Now You Can Be Part of the Meeting, Too!"

Simon to post-bottle Bo as I was setting him up on Kira's bed. I think it was some kind of super-hero meeting. They are into playing "Elements" these days--Kira is fire, John water, Simon air, and Bo electricity. Pay no attention to their askew sense of science.
Also, an outtake from that Sunday Morning shot last week. Simon REALLY loves Bo!

Two Naps a Day

We recently dropped Bo's third nap, which gives him a large chunk of time at the end of the day wherein he is supposed to be awake. Not unsurprisingly, many days he ends up falling asleep in weird places right around dinner time. The picture below isn't one of those places; but neither is it where he fell asleep. Just a few minutes before he had been sitting on my lap while I was playing the piano and singing at the top of my lungs. I realized after a bit that he had gone kind of limp and I looked down: 100% asleep. I moved him to his bouncy seat for the picture. Cutest kid ever!

Halloween was a big hit again this year. We trick-or-treated around the neighborhood in a big gang of close to twenty kids. Kira and John each fell once; Simon showed us every piece of candy. Bo went home early--but boy was he cute in that lion costume. And, in case you were wondering: yes, Simon went as the Green Lantern last year; we had to buy a new, bigger costume for him. And, yes: Kira made that broom out of modular plastic structural toys. It was the whole reason she wanted to be a witch.

What Happens...

When you ask the kids to be excited for Gramma's birthday!

Around here...

Jay and Simon had Fall Break this week, which means we had a few projects we wanted to get done.  We started painting the fort, and it was probably the first house project ever that the kids were actually helpful with.  They painted like champs!
And Bo will be 6-months-old on Monday!  In honor of his half-birthday, he got his first bite of pureed carrots.  He was a little confused...

Superman Day

Today, 100% by coincidence, Jay, John, and Simon all chose the exact same shirt. It was...wait for it...a super coincidence.

My People

I (Millie) was complaining the other day that I don't have any good pictures of my people.  After church the other day (while I was still working), Jay orchestrated a photo shoot and let the kids take most of the pictures.  All the pictures they took make my heart sing a little.
